Please colleagues this is a reminder of the world poverty day 17th October 2009 no need for me to tell you about our situation in Sierra Leone, the word global is a common house hold not only the capital but the provincial towns meaning poverty has become stigma for us in Sierra Leone, Let start thinking what message should we take to our governments around the world.

International Day of Democracy
Democracy-Sierra Leone is pleased to inform The President, Members of Parliament, and the Judiciary, all members of government, the Forth Estate and the general populace that as agreed by the United Nations General Assembly, 15th September, 2009 marks the second commemoration of the International Day of Democracy. The United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and other world bodies are encouraging all nations their people and government to commemorate this day. The Theme for this year’s commemoration is “Democracy and Political Tolerance”.
As a result of the significance of the theme for this year’s commemoration -‘’Democracy and Political Tolerance’’, Democracy – Sierra Leone is congratulating the government, all democracy Activists and the people of Sierra Leone for the efforts we are making to enhance democracy and its tenets; hence the need for a call on the Government to improve/do the following;
1. We call on H. E the President to keep his promise of separating the Attorney General’s office from that of the Minister of Justice so as to ensure independence of the Judiciary and equal access to justice.
2. That the Public Order Act of 1965 be reviewed as a matter of urgency to help build a freer Freedom of Expression and openness.
3. That the Legislative arm of government be capacitated and be given greater independence so that they can perform their functions effectively so as to build a stronger democracy.
4. We also commend all political parties for conforming to and implementing the Communiqué signed between the APC and S.L.P.P., while we urge all side, especially the government to completely implement that communiqué to advance political tolerance in our society.

WORLD DAY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE 19th Nov.2009

Thursday 19th Nov. 2009 No violence against children is justifiable.
All violence against children is preventable.
To make the world day for the prevention of child abuse 19th Nov. 2009. Theme: The role of parents and adults in preventing abuse and violence against children.
Network Movement for Youth and Children Welfare-SL is joining the global campaign to prioritize prevention, world day for the prevention of child abuse is aim to create a culture of prevention of abuse and violence against children worldwide. Every 19th November, an international coalition (more than 900 organizations in 135 countries) commits to support this day.
Being a parent is the most challenging and yet the most important and rewarding work in many peoples lives. As parents, we play a crucial role in every stage of childhood development. We all do what we can to protect children from harsh and painful experiences including abuse and violence.
Recommendation to parent: as a parent, you have a vital role. By taking a few simple steps at home, you can help your child enjoy school more and improve studying……
1. Prepare: your child for school.
2. Create: a positive home learning environment.
3. Improve: your child’s studying habits and grades.
4. Evaluation: educational resources
5. Identify: warning signs of potential learning or school.
