Jamie Morgan
Interviewed by Christabel Stewart

CS: You were a central part of a highly influential and individualistic 'gang' of creatives -Buffalo- that established a very strong aesthetic and specific professional structure in fashion image-making. What was it like to move away from this support structure to forge your own practice?
JM: Hard at first. I made a decision early on my career to work in cooperation with people: especially the relationship that I created with (the stylist) Ray Petri and the other Buffalo gang members. So much so that I sacrificed my personal ambition over what I wanted to create with the collective of Buffalo. It became more about attitude and aesthetic than my personal desires. Even so, I still always shot what I wanted to. Ray trusted my photographic judgement completely. When Buffalo was no longer I had no problem creatively, but I felt very isolated emotionally and in terms of my career ambitions. Without the gang it all seemed a bit pointless.

Some considerations on photography with l`ère of numerical
OF GUIDU ANTONIETTI DI CINARCA

Just an image, not an image right, in black and white. It in colors, it was became black and white. Was it silver, it became numerical? It is an image? Not it is not an image, they are only pixels. One can copy it, stick it, erase it, forget it. Images like that Ci there is million of them on the Web Lives the images. Most beautiful photographs aren't they the photographs flights? The photographer is a robber of images, the photographer is a creator of images. Its support is space, time, the movement, the moment present. Complement of Architecture photographs... Ah erudite plays of the forms in the light... Is the Architect makers of images, a smooth talker? Not on!

-------------------------

Difficult to know that it is the share of creation of the photographer
when he immortalise a scene of spectacle. It is not enough to know
to press on the release of compact. In the semi darkness of the room,
with the c?ur of a hubbub of discussions and noises of chair, silhouettes
cross, are hustled. One hears "excuse me", of "forgiveness". Each one
seeks the best place, assoit, is raised, turned over. Sometimes, in a halation
of light, one reconnait somebody, a courteous safety, an epic of the hand
to indicate a free place. The hour approaches. One does not finish settling,
the light drops, one does not hear any more but whispers, fabric crumplings.
Silence. Darkness. The curtain opens. The decoration is discovered, then
little by little, the characters appear at the rate/rhythm of the music. The spectator
remains amazed, the opened wide eye. Silence. One is in environment. But it is
necessary to react, even surprised, the photographer must perpetuate the strong
moments. There is necessary to know to place, remain discrete, seize the good
attitudes, to play with a capricious light, to make the development. Ca is there, too
late, the actor is except framework, it changed attitude, of installation. Tans worse,
there is necessary to follow and not to be let exceed, to carry by its sensitivity,
always to remain attentive with what occurs in depth. At the end of one hour, the
actors solidify, the applause fuse, the light is re-ignited. It is finished. Ouf! All is
out of box.
