Global Youth Assembly 2013

We recently had the opportunity to showcase some of the Adobe Youth Voices artwork at the Global Youth Assembly (GYA) in Edmonton, Canada. This event took place between August 7th and 10th, 2013 within Alberta University. The Global Youth Assembly, hosted by the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights, is a leading international human rights forum for youth and young adults. This year’s theme focused on the health of human rights and to identify where youth can contribute to fostering equality, justice and freedom.

We felt that the AYV program greatly aligned with what the GYA was trying to accomplish. This provided an excellent opportunity for the work done by AYV to be showcased for all the youth to view.

On the first day of the event our artwork was displayed in the “chill room” This was a place where youth could gather in between sessions and explore several booths that were being showcased.

This provided all the youth attending an opportunity to learn about different organizations that are working in the non-profit sector in both Alberta and around the world.

On the second day we had the opportunity to watch the RBC Movers, Shakers, and Change Makers presentation. These presentations allowed youth to present their idea to valued community members, we were able to view these presentation and provide feedback to all the youth.

We then asked youth to relate to the 10 art pieces we presented and got some amazing stories about what each image meant to them. Make sure to stay posted as we will soon be showcasing videos of what the youth said and how important the social issues presented are to them!

All of these youth were inspired and excited to start working on bettering their community and we are happy to be a part of that change. We want to send out our sincerest thanks to the Global Youth Assembly team and the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights for inviting us to participate in this opportunity!
