We wish - The National Teach-In on Global Warming - Great Success !

The National Teach-In on Global Warming is a very welcome bit of news for all the climate enthusiasts. The timing could not be more perfect. Indeed with the new administration taking office, it provides great inspiration and hope for all the climate enthusiast around the world.

The Bush administration’s failure to ratify the Kyoto protocol and failure to highlight the climate change issue has been received with much despair and anger across the globe. It has led to an adaptation of a certain cynical logic, especially amongst the developing and emerging nations ie China, India, Brazil, Russia etc.

Coming from the Himalayan region, climate change is one of the most prominent issues facing the region. Initiatives like the National Teach in on Global Warming fills us with inspiration - that such initiatives can perhaps be duplicated there as well and that corporations, businesses and the government alike will place climate change firmly on their agenda.

As highlighted on the Human Development Report 2007-2008, the cost of inaction will be far more severe than mobilizing and taking actions NOW! The Human Development Report clearly highlights the urgency of the climate change issue. The US being the largest economy and also one of the biggest emitters of global green house gases – soon to be surpassed by China – has tremendous impact on climate change. Rather than blockading climate change initiatives as has been the case, we expect the US to be on the front line championing clean energy initiatives.

We wait with apprehension and wish this initiative great success !
