Side events are a chance to learn more about specific activities and proposals. They are presented by agencies of the United Nations (such as the IPCC), Non-governmental Organizations (including environmental, business, research and labour interests), and parties to the negotiations. Today, I went to a session on the implementation of adaptation to climate change activities in Latin America hosted by the World Bank.
The World Bank has been working on adaptations projects in Latin America since 1997 and has the largest portfolio of projects of any organization. Their strategy focuses on supporting: low carbon growth, adaptation in hot spots and links between knowledge, and decision making. To illustrate this strategy, there were presentations from Japanese researchers who are working closely with Latin American countries and the World Bank to develop climate modes that project the future impacts of climate change as well as people working in Latin America on joint projects that have been undertaken.
