Thanks to all who were able to come out. We were able to reach the consensus that we need to emphasize both our tools/more specific functions (e.g. post a blog vs. interact with other members) and the TIG experience.
Front Page:
If a component has not been mentioned, it will be cut from the front page.
- less text! (currently overwhelming, eye tends to skim over blocks of text)
- large, visible, scrolldown language component (current language drop down menu ineffective, different languages may help differentiate TIG from other sites)
- redesign JOIN component, focus on verbs, possible icons? (needs to be clearer and more visually obvious)
- 3 spotlights (visually appealing, ability for TIG to speak with members directly, shows TIG’s emphasis on social activism)
- ONE sentence to explain TIG in accessible language (possibly with links to our themes; also, since this is going to be quite challenging, I’m planning to put possible sentences on this blog so we can all bicker over it ;))
- “member map” with # of users. Click the globe on the “members online” component for example (visually appealing, showcases our international community)
- expand member stories component to a “nest” or “member cloud” (will show by example, the integration of tools on TIG, our resources, interactivity)
- option to visually change logo (like google)
MyTIG:
- login takes user directly to MyTIG (intermediary page unnecessary)
- central section a semi customizable feed replaces components
- spotlights demoted to sidebar as randomized banners (maintain communication with users, esp for those permanently logged in)
- spotlight above feed (?) that TIG staff may turn on/off
- smaller components: TIGmessages, birthdays, your content, recently viewed, what’s hot/new, recommendations (books? profile?)
