Brothers and Sisters,

"Ask not what Africa can do for you; ask what you can do for Africa."

This campaign was established for the purpose of uniting the African people of the world to come together in one voice, to work together as one action, and with our united effort create one Africa.

We believe the time has come for the Global African Community to prove to themselves, once and for all, that they are neither negligent nor complacent.

Up until now all pressure to assist in developing the African Continent has come from International Organizations, which are, in most cases, non-African. So far their efforts have yielded success in garnering support for the cancellation of debts to the poorest countries of Africa, but their still remains much work to be done.

Historically, we believe the time has arrived for the Global African Community to take matters into their own hands in assisting in the development process of Africa and its people.

We must prove to the world, once and for all, that we are not complacent; but rather a determined force, when we are well informed, more than capable of lobbying and supporting our leaders, to ensure they make the correct decisions which will create positive changes to the African People. As we are well aware democracy is a veritable platform to achieve these goals and we need to continue to stress the importance of free speech as a vital key for development and progress.

Without a united determination of the Global African Leaders, striving for positive change, the efforts so far gained from the international community will be in vain.

Our generation will not tolerate this outcome, hence the introduction of the
"1 Voice, 1 Action, 1 Africa" Campaign.

Our members are working days and nights to form the Afghanistan team and establish the GU Center in this country.

Afghanistan is located in the heart of Asia, with 647,500 km² area, 31,056,997 (July 2006 est.) population and 8% (2005 est.) GDP. Its capital is “Kabul” which is a beautiful city and the national languages of the country are (Dari Pashto).

More about Afghanistan:

Background:
Ahmad Shah DURRANI unified the Pashtun tribes and founded Afghanistan in 1747. The country served as a buffer between the British and Russian empires until it won independence from notional British control in 1919. A brief experiment in democracy ended in a 1973 coup and a 1978 Communist counter-coup. The Soviet Union invaded in 1979 to support the tottering Afghan Communist regime, but withdrew 10 years later under relentless pressure by internationally supported anti-Communist mujahedin rebels. A civil war between mujahedin factions erupted following the 1992 fall of the Communist regime. The Taliban, a hardline Pakistani-sponsored movement that emerged in 1994 to end the country's civil war and anarchy, seized Kabul in 1996 and most of the country outside of opposition Northern Alliance strongholds by 1998. Following the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, a US, Allied, and Northern Alliance military action toppled the Taliban for sheltering Osama BIN LADIN. In late 2001, a conference in Bonn, Germany, established a process for political reconstruction that included the adoption of a new constitution and a presidential election in 2004, and National Assembly elections in 2005. On 7 December 2004, Hamid KARZAI became the first democratically elected president of Afghanistan. The National Assembly was inaugurated on 19 December 2005.

Flag Description:
three equal vertical bands of black (hoist), red, and green, with a gold emblem centered on the red band; the emblem features a temple-like structure encircled by a wreath on the left and right and by a bold Islamic inscription above

Ethiopia is one of the ancient independent states located in the horn of Africa bordering Sudan, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia and Djibouti. It is widely known for its physical and ethnic diversity and for over dependence on volatile agricultural economy that is subject to severe episodes of drought and famine. Although it scores lower in almost all social and economic indicators, Ethiopia has abundant human resources and social capital that has yet to be tapped.

The majority of the 74 million people in Ethiopia live in rural areas. These people are generally poor and undereducated but have developed one of the most elaborate social capital systems built around interdependence for many generations against poverty, diseases, and external invasion.

The urban inhabitants that account only 15 percent of the population comprise of traders, farmers and civil servants. The civil servants adhere to similar norms to those in rural areas transcending various social divides such as religion, ethnicity and socio-economic system. The middle class in Ethiopia is generally small but growing. Civil servants account for the majority of the middle class. Although they are highly disciplined, they lack exposure to new ways of doing things. The technical and institutional capability of the civil service is relatively weak. Programs and projects are poorly planned and implemented. The level of responsible decision making and action is so slow to the extent that lethargy has began to choke development altogether.

The government is very keen to change the situation. It has adopted an Agricultural Development Led Industrialization(ADLI),lately renamed Rural and Industrial Development(RID) that promotes widespread extension services, use of fertilizers, good farming practices and injection of better seeds. The focus on rural areas and small households has led to expansion of agricultural extension and credit schemes, primary education, primary health care, rural water supply and rural roads. In collaboration with international financial institutions, the government launched a civil service reform, and decentralization and empowerment programs focusing on districts (widely known as Woredas).

In addiction, the last two decades have seen a considerable influx of international NGOs that have been doing development works ranging from constructing roads, bridges, clinics, schools and stores to conducting workshops on all aspects of development. Efforts made by NGOs in the areas of education, health, food security, empowerment of women and children and fighting HIV/AIDS were exemplary.

Despite the efforts of the government and NGOs, the situation of rural people remained the same, in some places even got deteriorated. A close look at the situation shows a conundrum-a disparity between social and economic progress and the enduring capacity of Ethiopia's rural people, the government readiness to alleviate poverty, the relatively disciplined civil service and the untiring support of NGOs. Observes argue that the government and NGOs are unable to mobilize the capacities and resources of rural people. They have problems in mobilizing the energies of the private sector and the civil society organizations to the fullest extent.

Simply focusing on the conventional approaches of development such as increasing agricultural input or constructing bridges has failed to deal with the human and institutional dimension of people. In spite of the outstanding social capital, Ethiopians had a difficulty in creating a civil and commercial enterprise that drives the economy forward.

It can be argued that the long standing political scenery that advanced the government as the sole provider of everything may have contributed to the current state of affairs. Politically, Ethiopia has undergone long term wars. Its feudal system followed by a command and control Deg regime that led to civil war that lasted for two decades. Thereafter, the new government adopted an ethnic based federal system with an extensive decentralization down to the district (woreda) levels.

This transition from a feudal system to a socialist system, and then to a highly decentralized ethnic based federal system, the two wars, an episode of drought has been disruptive to the process of creating the requisite skills, knowledge and competence that are necessary for social and economic well being and personal advancement. The progress was also distractive for the creation of the capacities of the people to mobilize their social capital for economic development. People were required to contribute more to civil wars or to fellow citizens affected by drought than put their energy in a collective long term and sustainable development.

Ethiopian policy makers remained at the center of every of these changes. Much of the development took place with out significant involvement of civil society and the private sector. Clearly something is missing from the menu of development approach. The good intentions of the government and international actors had a difficulty in securing community commitments and building community structures that can preserve and sustain collective efforts. The underestimation of people's capability to take their development in their own hands seems to have undermined local initiatives.

Poverty in Ethiopia is often viewed as a linear syndrome of the lack of food, water, roads or shelter. It is increasingly becoming clear that poverty in Ethiopia is far more complex than the lack of wealth or many of these items. There is much more to it than earning a dollar a day or meeting a family's basic needs. Poverty has social, ecological, political, cultural and spiritual dimensions that seemed to be ignored. The underlying problems are often social and cultural including ignorance and lack of information on the options to take different routes than what the mainstream norm suggest.

Learning, information and communication are therefore central to the development of people, their economic, political, social, ecological and spiritual well being. Changing the capacity and attitude of people, communities and institutions to effectively manage their development is very important for progress. For example for many of us good education has proved to be effective in helping us get out of poverty. Productivity increases with access to appropriate knowledge and technology. Information services can provide a sense of hope for people by improving their knowledge levels thereby bringing the change in attitudes that are necessary for development.

My proposal on youth affair

Dear sir,
After carefully studying the precious youths in my society,I discover that they are ambitious youths with great potentials and aspirations but they lack one thing, the knowledge to think right, unknowing that thinking right leads to acting right. They nurture a lot of misconceptions about life that leads most of them if not all to where they never prepared to be.They tend to do alot of things without taking to consideration the coming repercussion. For me i believe to advance them,we need one thing which is mental revolution. We need to change the way they think which will surely leads to their changed character and that will surely leads to a significant growth in the development of our society.
Secondly we need to get across to parents and government not deny the youths the right to better education, please read my article on "education as a right",in this article I outlined the reason why some youths uptil now are still illiterates taking the parents and the government responsible.
After this short description about the problems of our youths in Nigeria, i know you all want to ask me on how to go about it and tackle this problems,i know you will have a suggestion which will be much welcome and I am happy to let you know my plans in achieving the mission of global unification here in Nigeria are as follows:

REACHING THEM THROUGH EDUTAINMENT(educating through entertainment).
We all know youths are entertainment freak, they love to laugh and feel happy. We will use this as a key to unlock their hearts in impacting them positively on how to advance to the next level through organizing frequently conferences which will be fun-like,where we will make them happy and also speak with them the visions of an advance world. We could always invite some skilled volunteering motivational speakers to talk to them(youths) on various topic related to the mission of global unification in Africa.

GET THEM INFORMED AND INVOLVED.
Through providing materials like parphlets, posters, flyers and other advertsing materials being sponsored by global unification, we could get them informed about the advancement they need and communicate with them on issues that affect them. It's not neccesary the parphlets, posters or flyers e.t.c must be in English to avoid turning off those that can't understand english, we could use the famous pidgin language to communicate through our advertising.....materials.
We could get them(youths) involved by organizing some small competitions to attracts and get them fully parcitipate in advancing humanity related issues,by this we are empowering them and automatically creating a capacity building program for them.

GET ACROSS TO PARENTS AND GOVERNMENT.
The last step and not the least is to get across to parents and the government because they have a large part to take in this process.
Parents could be address through some enlightment programs to educate them the risks behind not giving their children the right to a better education because some of the parents seized to give their children the right education because of their ignorancy.
Goverments can be reached by advertising on what the youths want from them, their desire to be advanced,i believe that by a strong pestering from the youths to a certain level, they will not hestitate to comply and a total change in the society will emerge.

CONCLUSION.
I understand that this is not a small task to accomplish but i believe that with total commitments,a result-oriented mind, constitency, full dedication and being organized,i and my volunteered team can achieve all this stated processes and progresses and we are ready to give all it takes to achieve success on this mission.I look forward to your reply the soonest to my proposal.

THANKS......
OLADAPO ODEMUYIWA
Uniting To Create A Change.

Education as a right!

It is a little bit difficult to believe that the whole question of the education in the so-called disadvantaged areas of the Nigeria still wears certain peculiar features,so many years after many hot debates both locally and internationally on the desirability or not of the catching up,had been settled.
Thus, the government in those areas have had to plead, beg or even threaten on the matter of parents withdrawing their children-particularly girls-from schools in order to give them out in marriage or simply that such children are needed to help the parents,or even that special religious schools are preferrable. When it is not all of that, many parents have been saying they just cannot pay the fees, levies e.t.c
I,believe sincerely that this problem is national in it's implications and should not be treated as the business of the affected areas only. The reason is simple. As long as it is now accepted that Nigeria is one large, indivisible community, with definite national aspirations and ambitions in the matter of progress and development,it is not acceptable that education-the immutable, constant factor of all such progress and development-should be allowed to suffer any sort of experimentation in obedience to so called local peculiarities and different pace of the development. As Abraham Lincoln said on the question of freedom in another context, this Nigeria cannot remain half educated, half uneducated. if that should be so, then we shall not be talking of the one nation, one destiny.
I therefore believes that this government stands the best chance in solving, once and for all time, the peculiar problems of education attributable to insufficient funds and uncooperative parents in the so-called disadvantaged areas of Nigeria.
A more determined programme of public enlightenment should be mounted to convince those recalcitrant parents that the social system that satisfactorily sustained them is crumbling fast and that their children do not have to be trapped in its ruins;that there is nothing just or culturally admirable in a 13-year-old girl becoming a wife, and that mere numbers will not always and automatically gurantee a fair sharing of the nation's responsibilities - and priviledges.
As for funding,it is always painful to listen to government in the so-called disadvantaged areas complaining about insufficient money for education.Theirs is thus a double disadvantage. And in some of these areas, the attempts to reduce state expenditure on education by making non-indigenes pay higher fees at the tertiary level has given rise to complaints of a certain type of discrimination that an indivisible Nigeria with one destiny should very well do without. It seems quite clear to me that this particular problem ought to be treated as a national emergency, with the fedreal government playing a leadership role. The problems arising from spillage and pollution in the oil producing areas of nigeria, for instance, are a national concern, considering that the whole nation's unifying economic interest lies in those areas.
Similarly,Nigeria's investment in the future translates into the education of it's people-all of them.In one word, where money is the identifiable, single most important constraint on education in the so-called disadvantaged areas, the federal government and the concern citizens must unhesitatingly go to it rescue.
This way of looking at this particular problem of course does not mean that the so-called already advantaged areas must be held immobile. It simply means that the whole nation cannot afford, out of consideration for the sensibilities of our so-called foreign creditors,to down-grade the importance of the education.
I have this believe that infleuntial people in some certain parts of this country have not seriously tackled this problem of the educationally disadvantaged areas for a very selfish reason:they have always enjoyed a social system where there is a large reservoir of serfs to continue polishing their views of themselves as heaven-ordained masters. To maintain such system,it is neccesary that the large majority of those serfs have no opportunity to advance on social ladder - through education. The present government and generation should try to put a full stop to this monstrous illusion.

Personnally,it's just on january 2007 that i have joined GU thanks to your confidence on my person, the recommendation of my friend Dabal Bista and because i share GU ideals of Africa Global development.
I haven't taken a personal contact with a GU member in Côte d'Ivoire but i will do it as soon as possible.
For a better prospect of GU in my locality, i will tell you about a proposal.
Since 2004, my organisation"Section Côte d'Ivoire du Réseau International des Jeunes Volontaires Francophones" has been working with the Ivoirian National Institut for Blind People Promotion on a IT center project for blind people and non blind people. But we haven't realised this project because of lack of technical and financial support.
So that i am Coming to propose you to continue this project with us.
With your support,we will set up a GU IT Center for blind people and the others who are not blind in our locality.
This GU IT Center will give to the blind people and non blind to have access to IT,to a training and to make research. We will also train people to volunteerism involvement.
We take in account blind people community in the proposal because this community lives on the fringe of society.Wherever in Côte d'Ivoire, there is not any IT Center which takes in account blind people.
Thanks to this GU IT Center, we will change a dream to reality giving hope to a community thanks to IT access.
The GU IT Center will also permit to the others who are not blind to have access to Internet and to train themselves , make some research and build their capacity.
This proposal of GU IT Center will permit us to set up GU in our locality and well lead our GU mission.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Yours Sincerely
