GYCA
The Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA) is a UNAIDS and UNFPA-supported network of young leaders (ages 15 - 30) and adult allies working in HIV/AIDS worldwide. GYCA addresses the need of creating a bridge for continued empowerment, networking opportunities and collaboration among youth activists and youth organizations in fighting the epidemic.

NFP-United States Update

NFP Update

As the United States National Focal Point for GYCA, the first and the foremost task I undertook was making GYCA known to the youth. I sent out emails to various public health, nursing, and other medical schools letting them know about the existence of GYCA. I sent out brief information about what GYCA does and how joining it would be beneficial for both, the members and GYCA.

Secondly, I am working towards interviewing Diane Reeve, an AIDS victim who was interviewed by the ABC’s 20/20 channel and also by Oprah on her show. Diane Reeve has agreed to interview for GYCA and help us in any way she can. I am currently preparing questions for her that are youth-centric and which will focus on youth issues.

Thirdly, I have recently received the DVD – Love in the times of AIDS. I am planning on showing this DVD in Public Health schools. I am trying to contact schools who have courses on HIV/AIDS and that would be interesting in showing these short documentaries to their students.
