GYCA at ICASA 2011 - Addis Ababa

Over 100 GYCA members across Africa and beyond are representing the coalition at the international Conference of HIV/AIDS and STIs in Africa which has brought together about 8000 delegates from across the world.

The 16th ICASA is taking place in Addis Ababa from 4-8 December 2011. It has brought together scientist, governments, community leaders among others to discuss emerging trends in the AIDS response and propose new ways of steming the spread of HIV

The youth program started with a three day preconference that saw sessions on capacity building, program planning and development as well as capacity building on SRHR of young people.

A call to action developed by the participants of the preconference which brought together about 300 young people from across the world was presented to the Ethiopian Press at a press conference and would be presented to the main conference at the closing ceremony of the conference.
The call to Action recognised all the efforts of various youth process that happened in 2010 and 2011 and identified the role young people can play and commit to play without making demands.

The Youth Pavilion has been set up at the community village to engage young people at the conference and provide space for discussion of youth related issues.

GYCA is adequately represented at the pavilion with postcards and GYCA brochures as well as other branding materials.
