Progresses

Dear All
How is the going over there?
Tutoring our students to assist them on passing their grades successfully was one part of the project, last week we started our first tutor in their respective schools. All the students attended the tutor. Volunteers of Green and Wealthy Ethiopia who are students at bahir Dar University took part in this program under the supervision of the school directors.

The relation created between our students and their mentors became strong as a result they are frequently coming in contact to discus about their work condition, education and other social matters.

20 out of our 30 students deposited money in their account as their first saving that was being agreed at the beginning .hopefully the rest will do it soon before the end of this month.

Our students are becoming more familiar with their business and becoming known in their work especially their customers know our students back ground and understand our intention this helped us to attract our customers to us and most of clients are encouraging the initiative and promised to be our customer for long time.

This is really amazing.

Building Capacity of Girls to reduce their vulnerability to abuse and HIV/Aids
Related to country: Malawi

We have been conducting community performance in three locations namely; Chimwankhunda, Zingwangwa and Misesa. In all these communities 52 trained peer educators have been involved in sensitizing the communities through drama performances, songs and talent display. our main message in all these communities was "Protect a girl child from abuse and HIV/Aids, is everyone's responsibility". After the performance, I had the opportunity to talk about the rights of girls and how families and communities can support and promote girls to become useful citizens.

We have also started a netball league for participating girls, write now the clubs are meeting twice a week to practice and discuss important issues affecting them.

All the participating girls are now involved in peer to peer information sharing in their respective communities. It is expected that each peer educator will target and train 10 peers on HIV/Aids and gender issues. Each peer educator will mobilise these girls and form a club with them which she will be in charge. At the end of the day we are going to have 50 plus network of girls clubs in five community as a multiplier effect of this project.

I planned to conduct a refresher workshop on HIV/Aids so as to deepen their understanding in HIV/Aids.
