Youth empowerment on SRHR - Post #2
Translations available in: English (original) | Spanish

Hello readers!

I am glad to write a new post about the progress of my project. The last month I told you about the objectives of the project and the characteristics of the Youth for Health Network (YHN), the group which implements the activities with me.

In my timeline, this second month will be to produce materials and we started to do that in a meeting with referents of the groups which are part of the YHN, at the same time we discussed about the organization of the event.

During this year five groups of the YHN created short movies about HIV prevention, we proposed questions and games to promote discussions after the people see the movies. Some groups are making the same for plays.

We also decided to create a video with the participation of adults and members of governmental and social organizations who support our work. With this, we want to recognize and be thankful for this support.

For other project the youth made posters with images and messages about HIV prevention, so it will be included too in the event. We want to show all the materials produced this year because we think it is important to socialize the product of a lot of work and they are useful to disseminate our messages and train other young people.

In this month meeting we proposed alternatives of dates and places to do the event. We decided to do it on December 12th, at that date the youth will end the school period so it is easy to be able to participate and help in the last organization details. We are contacting places to do the event and organizing the agenda.

For the next post we will make the event, so I could tell you about the results of that. I hope I have good news!!

Cheers.

Progress of my project

Dear friends are pleasure to me back to update you on the progress of my project. In the last 30 days I implemented some activities; therefore I faced some difficulties, those I overcome successful.

I was organizing the training session of political advocacy for young people at Moamba district, and my first difficult was the timeline. I could not organize the training sessions in the dates that I initially planned, because we had election in Mozambique. So during the previous date we had lot political meetings for elections, and we have been advised to not organize training at this time. So we have postponed that training sessions.

The second difficulty was the space for the training in Moamba district. He had previous agreement with a School to organize the training, but when we postponed the training time, we loose this agreement. The news dates was no compatible with timeline of the school, because the school was using the rooms for final examination.

We overcome the both difficult because we worked with local partnership (local youth organization and local government department). In this way we could find another place outside of the school to organize the training.

We could join together about 20 young people in almost a week and we orient the trainings successful. I was able to pass my knowledge from the trainings in political advocacy from GYCA, to another young people. We had lecture sessions, discussion sessions, small working groups’ sessions and as well practical exercise (in the field).

In the practical exercise they had to apply the research methodology (in advocacy context), when they was collection contributions for the next AIDS strategic planning for Mozambique. The exercises were good because at the end we were able to create recommendation for AIDS National council.

The training session had participation of young people from the both gender, and that is really difficulty in rural areas (where the people think the women’s should stay at home). That was possible thanks to local youth organization those convince the parents of these women’s.

The other good thing was the young people come from different fields (from schools, out of school, theater groups, and radio activists, between others).

At open session of the training we had a pleasure to receive the local officer from National AIDS Council. Now we start to work in advocacy to influence the next AIDS strategic planning, trough our contributions made during the training.
