Related to country: Nigeria

Translations available in: English (original) | French

on the eve of former Governor, Lucky Igbinedion's exit from office, a large expanse of Iguobazuwa forest reserve measuring 3,500 hectares, was leased to a French multinational rubber giant-Michelin Nigeria Plc- to cultivate large -scale hevea trees otherwise known as rubber plantation. the approval and lease agreements, which was allegedly done through the back door, was signed without due process or consent of the people of the communities. but the displaced communities after fruitless efforts throught relevant government agencies for adequate compensation commensurate to unwarranted hazards they are now facing. the affected communities are in ovia south west local government area of edo state in nigeria. as a concern citizen of this country, please i need you all to comment on this issue and suggest a way forword cause this is one area that is fast destroying the livelihood of thousands and inturn affecting our biodiversity and ecosystem at large.
thanks

Re:Deforestation
The stat government and the relevant stakeholders in the business should be held accountable for any damages caused to the host communities. Due compensation should be given to the affected communities.

Re:Deforestation
This unfortunatly is getting common, the deforestation in indonesia for palm oil is a good example. Everyone should get behind this. Is there a petition for signing anywhere ?. Or e.mail address of Michelen to complain.

Do you know why we are having the climate changes and global warming and all such kind of terrible news? It is because we are committing sin. A sin which the nature can never forgive us! Time and time again, we have betrayed, devastated and utilized mother earth and one such method we used for that is deforestation. I don’t know, its too late guys, we have dug our holes! National Daily learnt that the Chairman of the anti-corruption agency, Mrs. Farida Waziri, who was piqued at the turn of event, personally instructed the SEO Company commission's counsel to file an appeal against the verdict immediately. Ground one of the appeal reads that "the learned SEO Professionals trial judge erred in law when he imposed a fine on Igbinedion rather than a term of imprisonment." Her annoyance, sources revealed, stemmed from the fact that the plea bargaining, Promotional Products which the commission duly entered into fell short of its expectation.

BUSINESS is GLOBAL.
There is NO GOING BACK. The World is AS-IS. I see the Value of Trees way beyond the intake of Carbon and the Cooling of Earth. Deforestation is a WAR. I have NO CONTROL over the WHOLE WORLD which IS at WAR with EARTH. BUT!!! Everything a TREE CAN DO IS POSSIBLE to MAKE through MECHANICAL MEANS. I have designed systems to that would work from the Environment for the Environment. Oxygen is PLENTIFUL. DIRT is PLENTIFUL. The World is NOT DYING. MAN does NOT NEED to CHANGE. CHANGE needs to remove >G< to CHANCE again. Man has more ABILITY through INVENTION that has yet to be FOCUSED INTO because of PURE SELF-INTERESTS. So what. The larger community could by-pass all SELF-INTERESTED as awareness has become CENTER-STAGE through what seems as DAMAGE to the WORLD. There is NO DAMAGE that in time MAN can't MANAGE. Cause-EFFECT. Cause-EFFECT. The world could be MADE CLEAN through effort. I have the TOOLS. Maybe I will do all myself as finding help is talk of MONEY. MONEY has nothing to do with GETTING IT DONE. The Larger Majority could DO SO MUCH. Time will CHANGE. CHANCE must be MAN-CAUSED.

Very Sad
That chap who walked the Amazon recently said he came across so many deforested areas. I stopped eating custard creams because of their palm oil use. Every bit we can do helps.skin care products and corporate team building days and penny auctions and PVC banners.

One of the clearest lessons of the last few decades is that capitalism is indestructible. Marx compared it to a vampire, and one of the salient points of640-822comparison now appears to be that642-812always rise up again after being stabbed to death. Even Mao’s attempt, in the Cultural Revolution, to wipe out the traces of capitalism, ended up in its triumphant return70-647. Today’s Left reacts in a wide variety of ways to the hegemony of global capitalism and its political supplement, liberal democracy. It might, for example, accept the hegemony70-649, but continue to fight for reform within its rules (this is Third Way social democracy).
