Have you recently started a campaign to raise awareness about or mobilize other young people around the Millennium Development Goals? Or have you successfully started a lobbying campaign geared towards your local or national government? Whatever action you have taken, we would like to learn about it! Sharing your experiences good or bad - can be very inspiring for other young people. If you haven't been as active yet, you can use this GroupBlog to learn what you can do to add your voice to the global fight against poverty!

Best way to awreness raising
Related to country: Australia
About the book: "Clinical Nursing Skills and Techniques"

During awareness-raising activities, or in everyday life when we try to draw someone's attention on a wrong behaviour, we usually try to awaken emotions, feelings or cognitive processes that may drive people into action. It may be:

  • guilt: because of irresponsible people like you terrible things are happening,
  • shame: our descendants will look back at us as the worst century in history,
  • responsibility: we all play a role so we must be aware of the consequences of our acts and choose them in accordance with the future we want,
  • interest: you too would benefit from a better behaviour,
  • rationality: here are the scientific studies and accurate figures that demonstrate the impact of such a behaviour,
  • fear: if we go on acting like this the human race will soon disappear,
  • compassion: it is sad, isn't it?
  • solidarity: you too, do your bit for the construction of a better world,
  • excitement: how about finding a solution? a way to do things better? let's take up the challenge!
  • etc...

I would be very interested in hearing which feelings you usually try to awaken, and which ones work best to drive people to act (rather than just agree that it would be better if the problem did not exist!)
