As part of activities to mark this year’s International Youth Day, August 12, Global Xchange, a partnership between the British Council and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), is inviting you to participate in an Essay writing competition in accordance with its underlying value of active global citizenship and the theme of this year’s international youth day celebration,
“Be Seen, Be Heard; Youth Participation in Development”.
CATEGORY 1: Students between the ages of 12-17 yrs
TOPIC: The Nigerian Youth of My Dream.
RULES
Essays must not be more than 1000 words in length. The deadline for the submission of essays is July 20th 2007. Any essays that are sent after this date will be disqualified. It is open to only Nigerians resident in Abuja.
CATEGORY II: Young people between the ages of 18-25 yrs
TOPIC: “Let the Youth be Heard”
RULES
The essays must not exceed 2000 words. The deadline for submission is July 20th 2007. Any essay sent after this date will be disqualified. It is open to Nigerians resident both within and outside Abuja.
PRIZES!!!
The essays will be judged by a panel made up of members of literary associations. The best three entries from each category and their writers will consequently be invited to be a part of the International Youth Day celebration taking place in Abuja on the 12th of August 2007!!! There, they will be presented with fabulous prizes and have a chance to read out their winning essays at the International Youth Day Celebration.
