Powering ICT Toolkit

I would recommend taking a look at the Powering ICT toolkit. It can be found at http://www.dot-com-alliance.org/POWERING_ICT. The toolkit includes a lot of background information about alternative equipment options that may help to minimize power requirements and information about alternative power solutions. In addition, it includes an interactive decision-making tool to help telecenter managers and others find the most appropriate combination of computer equipment and energy solution given a specific situation.

Tanzania Telecentre Network Meeting Postponed to 25-26 October 2007

Greetings to you all. I am writing to express my thanks to all Telecentre Leaders who have responded to my previous call to the 1st meeting of the Telecentre Leaders in Tanzania. The original plan was to hold this meeting at Mwanza from the 9-10th September 2007.
This is now postponed to 25-26th October 2005. So far I have received confirmation from Donet, Nafrac, Cromambu, Sengerema and Data only. This means only 5 telecentres have responded yet there are over 20 telecentres in Tanzania.

From the mailing list: Uganda's policy makers discuss telecentres and alternative sources of power

There has been an interesting conversation about telecentres and alternative sources of power among some Ugandan members of parliament. My thinking is that with  the policy makers discussing some of the issues that are pertinent to us, there might be some light at the end of the tunnel in regard to telecentres and alternative power sources especially in Uganda.

Telecentre Family Sri Lanka's proud son

Anyone at the Telecentre Family (TCF) Sri Lanka wouldn’t deny knowing the father-like, always-willing-to-give-a-helping-hand, ever smiling and yes, definitely lovable Ashok Rajivkumar Cananathan. Digging out facts from Ashok himself to write up his miraculous, lucky story of how TCF changed his life to bring the happy smile that he so proudly wears today was certainly not a difficult task, given his easy-going manner and ever-helpful attitude.

Strengthening Community Learning Centres through Linkages and Networks: A Synthesis of Six Country Reports

From the Preface" "This report examines the experiences of some CLCs with such linkages and networks. It is based on six country reports from Japan, China, Bangladesh, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. These country reports, though quite different in scope, nevertheless have several common elements and a common methodology. The first part of this study identifies both the common features and the distinctive characteristics of CLCs that are identified in the country reports.
