Tanzania Telecentre Network launched

The Tanzania Telecentre Network was launched at a meeting on 25 -27 October 2007 in Mwanza, Tanzania. Over 27 participants most from telecentres attended the meeting. The workshop was supported by the International Institute for Communication and Development, SwopNet and UgaBYTES.

Farmers take to Internet surfing during leisure


SYANGJA, Oct 19 - Farmers here in Mayatari VDC of Syangja have grown a curious interest. After a long day's labor, many farmers here spend time at the village Community Information Center surfing the information superhighway.
Jagat Bahadur KC, one among such farmers who has become fond of information technology lately, quips, "Though I am a farmer by occupation, how can I stay detached from information technology in this age?"

Strengthening the Telecentre Movement in Tanzania

The East Africa Telecentre Leaders Forum (EATLF) discussions have started bearing fruits. The Tanzania Telecentre Network will be launched during a workshop on 25 - 27 October 2007. It was the decision of the second EATLF in October 2006 that countries form National telecentre networks. In February 2007, the Kenya Network of Telecentres (Kentel) was formed and this week will see the birth of the Tanzanian Network.
The Tanzania network aims:
To provide a platform for telecentres leaders to exchange ideas and knowledge on rural development.

NESsT leads discussion on Social Enterprise for telecentres

The online session of the East Africa Telecentre Leaders Forum (EATLF), is focusing on social enterprise and how to sustain telecentres. The discussion is lead by NESsT social enterprise director, Loic Comolli. NESsT  has for the past two years partnered with the International Development Research Center (IDRC) and telecentre.org to increase the sustainability of telecentres and their networks around the world.
