Computers for Learning (USA)

Related to country: United States

Dear TIGeducators in the USA,

I just learned about Computers for Learning, a program supported by the General Services Administration which supports the transfer of computers and related peripheral equipment from federal agencies to schools and some educational nonprofit organizations. For more information about the program, please visit: http://computersforlearning.gov/

"Transferring computers to schools/education nonprofits extends the useful life of the computer, helps a needy school, and contributes to a cleaner, greener environment."

Video: Seaton Primary School, UK - A Sustainable School

Related to country: United Kingdom

I thought I would share this interesting and inspiring video that I recently came across on youtube. It showcases Seaton Primary School in Devon, UK, whose motto is "Caring now for our future." The school creates its own solar and wind energy, encourages all students to walk or bike to school, has a comprehensive recycling and composting program, infuses environmental education across curricula, and engages students in an eco club. Enjoy!

Compassionate Clicking

TakingITGlobal and TIGed were recently featured in Leadership for Student Activities magazine, a publication of the U.S. National Association of Student Councils (NASC). The December 2008 issue of the magazine focused on the theme of "Make Technology Work for You," and included an article about TIG and TIGed called "Compassionate Clicking" by Kathleen Wilson Shryock. The article features several TIGeducators and TIGed projects, including Jennifer Meagher, Julie LIndsay, Vicki Davis, Pennsylvania's Classrooms for the Future initiative, and Carmichael Middle School in Richland, Washington. Read the full article online at http://www.nasc.us/s_nasc/sec.asp?CID=1689&DID=58830.

Cheers!
Kat
