Hello TIGeducators!
This post is a little overdue and for that I sincerely apologize. I have been very busy since I joined TakingITGlobal as Education Program Manager in October. Taking over for both US-based Program Manager Emily Kornblut and Canada-based Program Manager Luke Walker, I have big shoes to fill and have been very busy learning the ropes! But I promise that the posts will come more regularly from this point on.
As cliched as it sounds, it is hard for me to express how happy I am to have joined this great team and to have the opportunity to work with educators like you, who are passionate about bringing a global lens into the classroom in the hopes of giving young people the perspective, knowledge, and skills they need to create a better world now and into the future.
I have been interested in global education from the time I started attending university. Originally a psychology major, I was encouraged by my brother to take a class in international studies and I was hooked! While I was very thankful that my eyes had been opened more to the world around me, I felt angry and frustrated that I had not been taught more about the world prior to entering university It seemed to me that the type of information that I was exposing myself to should not be optional, dependent on one's post-secondary education choices, but integrated into education systems from a much younger age in order to foster active global citizens.
My interest in global education has continued to grow since my days as an undergraduate student, to the point that I know without a doubt that this is the field for me. I really look forward to building and growing TIGed, and providing you with all of the support you need in your role as global educators.
Please don't hesitate to be in touch or to add me as a friend on TakingITGlobal. I look forward to connecting!!
