Get Outside Your World Contest

ATTENTION TIGEDUCATORS IN CANADA: Here is a great opportunity for your students...

Engineers Without Borders and Mountain Equipment Co-op are proud to present the Get Outside Your World contest, a national competition in which students, grades 6 - 12, are challenged to consider the world as they want it to be. We are inviting you to share this challenge with your students, encouraging them to find a creative way to depict this vision in answering the question "What kind of world do you want to live in and what will it take to get there?"

The contest links to curricula across the country, including Grade 8 Self and Society in British Columbia, Grade 10 Communications Technologies in Ontario, the Québec Secondary V program The 20th Century: History and Civilizations in Quebec. Our aim is to get youth excited about global issues, while helping them learn about their role in making the world a better place.

Here's how to get your students involved:

We want to know what students, grade 6-12 (including CEGEP), envision for a better world and how we can get there. Submissions can take the form of photo essays, videos and essays.

Prizes for winning submissions include a visit from an EWB overseas volunteer, a $1,500 scholarship for post-secondary education, and more. The contest closes on April 30th, 2009, so get outside your world today!

Early Bird Contest:

Grade 12 and CEGEP students are eligible to win the early bird prize - a trip to the Engineers Without Borders National Conference held in Mississauga January 22-24 2009. The early bird contest closes January 5th, 2009.

We encourage you to incorporate the contest into class assignments and organize your whole class to enter. Please post the poster somewhere they can see it to get your students excited and planning their entries.

Please see http://www.teach.ewb.ca/contest for more contest details.
