Something happened today that I'd like to mention while I was at lunch.
I was sitting with a few girls I knew distantly, meaning I knew who they were, but not well enough to be friends. I was kind of bored, because I wasn't really talking to anyone. They we're always in a conversation with each other, and I didn't want to be rude. I know their names, but I'll replace them for you. Let's see....we'll say that it was Clara, Carmen, Addy and Ally. Ally and Carmen were chatting while eating their lunch while Clara and Addy gossiped away. At one point, Clara said something about someone Ally must have known, because she stopped to ask Clara, "Wait, you're talking about (I forget the name), right?"
"Who invited you into our conversation?" Addy snapped.
"Yeah, I wasn't talking to you!" Clara yelled.
Ally looked down at her hands.
"You're always doing that! I was trying to have a conversation with Clara, I don't just butt in when you're talking to Carmen!" Addy said.
"Sometimes..." Ally mumbled.
"Just stop! No one likes you!" Clara told her.
Ally looked like she wanted to cry.
"Leave her alone!" Carmen said. "She didn't do anything to you."
"Whatever," Clara rolled her eyes.
"She's my best friend; don't talk to her like that," Carmen told her, looking Clara in the eyes.
Addy and Clara wrinkled their noses and turned the other way.
Ally gave Carmen a watery smile.
I was really touched and surprised by Carmen standing up for Ally like that. Carmen hadn't struck me as someone who would say something like that to Addy and Clara, but I guess I don't know her well enough. It just shows that there is some good in everyone. Even though our world is a mess and we are so cruel to one another, there are people out there who will stand up for what they believe in- and that's something that TIG has really helped me to do. I thought you might want to hear that story, because it really put a smile on my face.
